NaNoWriMo

I'm participating in the NaNoWriMo challenge this November. The challenge is to write 50,000 words in one month. There's no prize, just recognition and a sense of accomplishment (not to mention the gathering of several new friends). NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. :)

They have message boards where you can get help with your book. My favorite thus far is the message board called "Character and Plot Realism Q&A." This board's sole purpose is to help you make your story more real by helping you include actual real details. :) Some sample thread titles that I see just perusing include:

  • Effects of Drinking Various Types of Tea?

  • Income From One Bestselling Novel?

  • Earthquakes Anyone?

  • Janitors--help!

  • Unusual Swear Words, Curses or Insults!

  • Anyone Speak Mongolian?

  • Early 1900s Schoolteachers

  • Celtic Mythology would help

  • Finland and second generation immigrants

  • Greek Birthing Methods

  • Online Dating Experiences

  • Have You Ever Donated A Kidney?

  • And there's lots more where that came from. Go check out the boards. They're fun. And join up. Let's all see if we can't write a 50,000 word novel by November 30th. :)
